The Dow Gardens
http://www.dowgardens.org Dow Gardens is a 110 acre botanical garden featuring formal and informal gardens, including a recently added Children's Garden. More than 600 species of shrubs, trees and flowers can be found on the grounds, including fine specimens of oak, maple, dogwood, crabapple, pine, rhododendron, magnolia and viburnum. Dow Gardens is owned and operated by The
Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation.
Whiting Forest is owned and operated by The
Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation. Today, the foundation continues to support
the Center and its programs. The Midland Center for the Arts building was
designed by Alden Dow to promote the relationship between art and
science. The Center's structure houses the Hall of Ideas, Education
& Outreach, MATRIX: MIDLAND, Arts Midland: Galleries & School,
Midland Community Concert Society, Midland County Historical Society,
Music Society, Midland Symphony Orchestra, and Theatre Guild. The combined
mission of the MCFTA is to provide resources for the education,
entertainment and inspiration of the mid-Michigan region through art,
science, history, performances and exhibits.
The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation,
along with other area businesses, individuals and organizations is
involved in this area initiative to see that sustainable development
(growth and development that serves both man and nature) flourishes in the
Tri-County area of Michigan—Midland, Bay City and
Saginaw.
